We’re lucky that numerous records of legal proceedings between the inhabitants of Deir el Medina have been preserved on papyri and bits of stone. Statement after statement, the dark side of this seemingly peaceful village gradually comes to light. The story of one unfortunate lady by the name of Herya also shows how the extremely fragile sources were handled.
